I Always Knew There Would Come
the Day

When I was young I never feared the rain
But would play around in the puddles all day
You see, life through young eyes is just a game
I always knew there would come the day

Then I get older and the storm drew nearer
I had mouths to feed, I had bills to pay
Now there's just an old face looking back in the mirror
I always knew there would come the day

She always had that silly smile
She could turn your darkest night to day
But now she's grown up, gone to start her own life
I always knew there would come the day

'Cause time's a thief, it'll break you down
Leave you lyin' and bleedin' on the ground
Make you wonder what it's all been worth
Steal the best years then leave without a sound

Now I'm in my twilight years
I watch and wait for the approachin' day
In the distance he comes ridin' on the thunder
I always knew there would come the day
I always knew there would come the day
I always knew there would come the day
