 False-Hearted Lover

In the heat of the night 'neath the town hall light
My love was seen in the arms of another
Clutchin
' at her coat and a sweetheart's note
Life in secret, lies, and under covers

When she made it back home
She was only there alone
I was already gone, gone, gone

By the moon's dyin' bones
And the wicked wind's moan
If you see her tell my false-hearted lover
That my love for her has turned to stone

Under neon blue signs at the whiskey five and dime
He was seen with another all the lay long night
Drinkin' and carryin' on 'til the early, early dawn
Vows broken by the dashboard light

Then sneaking back home
Thinkin' his cover wasn't blown
But she's already gone, gone, gone

By the moon's dyin' sight
And the wicked wind's fright
If you see him tell her false-hearted lover
That her love for him has turned to stone

False-Hearted lover
Why you make it sad and blue?
And leave 'em cryin' wonderin' what to do
False-Hearted lover
Why you do it that way, and all the games you play
Make 'em pick it up on their way

On the highways that I roam, I'm workin' all alone
Sellin' on the overnight trail
A lonely summer's night,
Two people caught in each other's eyes
No one pickin' up the phone or the email

So I'm speedin' back home
To make up for the time alone
But she's already gone, gone, gone

By the moon's dyin' veil
And the wicked wind's wail
I see that I'm a false-hearted lover
And my foolish heart turns to stone
